All About Devin

Devin has discovered a love... no obsession for all things Angry Birds.

Lots has happened with him in the last several months. He is still going to Mrs. Stephanie's preschool 3 days a week and he loves his friends and teacher there. In February he started at another school as well. Devin has struggled with learning and while he is a smart kid, he has no attention span, what-so-ever. He also has a lot of stemming behavior, which can be associated with autism. After a bunch of testing by Provo School District, he qualified for a preschool with intensive and specialized teaching. He loves it... but *I* love it too. He has already learned so much and I can see him starting to finally get it. They know exactly how to teach him that he is able to understand and they are really getting through to him.

After this preschool ends this year, they also qualified him for a special Kindergarten next year. I can not even describe how happy I am that he was able to get in this very selective program. He will be in a classroom with 15 kids and 3 teachers next year. With Devin's attention span, I know he would get lost in a regular classroom, but this is going to be perfect for him. I finally feel relieved for one more year that he will be able to get the help he needs. At the end of that year he will be tested and put in 1st grade or back in a "normal" kindergarten class... which would also be great, because he has a late August birthday and I was planning on holding him back a year anyway. I am so excited and thankful for this program!!!

He may have a short attention span, but he is one of the most creative and loving kids I know. His teacher says she has never seen a kid build such elaborate and large structures out of blocks. He is definitely a creator and has an amazing imagination. He is also the most cuddly and affectionate of my kids. He is always sweet and tells me that I am pretty all the time. He is so very tender-hearted! He is just the sweetest little boy and I know that he will be able to do anything he puts his mind to!

I'm so glad he's getting the help he needs! Is he being tested to see if he's on the spectrum somewhere? You know Jayce is. And he has ADHD. And general anxiety disorder. And Tourette's. You ever want to talk labels or diagnoses, just email me :)

It's been fun to read all your recent updates! You have such a beautiful family and Devin is no exception. He is awesome. I'm so glad that you've been able to find such great help for him. My kids have had some extra help too and I'm so grateful that all of those kinds of things are out there.
